Physician Information

Most patients desire some contouring of their bodies, but many are afraid of liposuction surgery or can’t afford it. This leaves the physician with the option of offering a non-invasive procedure, but results supported by clinical or scientific data is imperative. The 635nm technology is backed by multiple, independent clinical studies, proving the specific wavelength does have the stated effect on subcutaneous adipose tissue. The studies, one published in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Vol. 110, No. 3, September 2002, involved adipose tissue samples from 12 patients, indicating that 99% of the triglycerides from within the cells were released after approximately 6 minutes of exposure to the light. Another study, published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 45:1-7 (2013) involved 86 patients who experienced, on average, a 2.99 inch decrease in circumference of the treated area. Another study that was published in the same journal, 44:211-217 (2012) involved 689 patients that experienced an average circumferential reduction of 3.27 inches of the waist, hips and thighs, with a total reduction of all treated areas of 5.17 inches. Based on this information, and other data, the 635nm wavelength has consistently shown it has an effect on subcutaneous adipose tissue, and can cause a reaction resulting in a reduction in the circumference of the treated area. An important fact to point out is the device used in some of this research involved a light generator that was not in contact with the skin and produced approximately .08 mW of light energy.

The Contour Light delivers 635nm light at 12,800 mW per pad, and there are 4 pads, providing a total light energy of 51,200 mW of energy per session. In a published article titled: A Study on Skin Optics, Aravind Krishnaswamy and Gladimir V. G. Baranoski, Natural Phenomena Simulation Group, School of Computer Science, University of Waterloo, Canada, Technical Report CS-2004-01, January, 2004, proves that mid-600nm light is reflected by the dermis and subcutaneous adipose tissue at a very high rate, indicating the amount of the light that was reaching the adipose tissue of the patients in these studies was limited. Yet, the results of these studies were undeniable.

The Contour Light has a patented aspect to its design, utilizing a reflective, mirror-like surface that returns the reflected light back towards the skin. Not only does the Contour Light system have multiple times more light energy being delivered to the skin surface than any other system on the market, the patented, reflective properties of its light pads ensure the highest amount will reach the adipose tissue. Copies of study data can be provided upon request.
